New case: "Preble Penny" - Funded by Criminal Coffee / Moxxy Forensics

Intermountain Forensics (IMF) would like to announce a partnership with Moxxy Forensic Investigations, Criminal Coffee Co. and the Shelby (Ohio) Police Department to fund and support the identification of "Preble Penny", a Jane Doe found in Eaton, Ohio.

On May 25th, 1968; a group children came across the remains of an unidentified female in an advanced state of decomposition. The remains were disturbed by a flood in the local area and were believed to have been previously buried in a shallow grave.

The woman, nicknamed “Preble County Penny,” is believed to be 30 to 50 years of age, stood at an estimated height of 5’2” to 5’6”, and weighed an approximate 130 to 140 pounds. It was determined by the coroner at the time of the discovery that Penny could have experienced complications if she had given birth. No personal items or articles of clothing were found with the remains.

The Shelby Police Department and Moxxy Forensic Investigations (https://www.moxxyforensics.com/) reached out to our laboratory to help work and fund this identification. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) laboratory, IMF was happy to assist with accepting donations and help apply the most cutting edge Forensic DNA technologies from our lab and our partners. Moxxy Forensic Investigations has offered their Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG) services for this case, free of charge.

We are also absolutely ecstatic to also announce that due to the generosity of an amazing partner, Criminal Coffee Co (https://criminalcoffeeco.com/) this case has already been FULLY FUNDED and will proceed in earnest by IMF team.

This is just an amazing example of partners working together to obtain the resources required to help give back Preble Penny her name and provide some closure to her family.

"Criminal Coffee is not just a coffee brand – it’s a mission. And that mission is to provide the

funding necessary to solve as many cases as we can. It’s important to note that this donation

would not be possible without the support of our loyal coffee drinkers who are as passionate

about solving crime as we are.

We are excited to team up with Intermountain Forensics, Moxxy Forensic Investigations, and the Shelby Police Department to possibly solve this case. We hope that this investigation leads to the identification of “Preble Penny” and provides answers as to what happened to her. Although she may no longer be with us, she deserves to have her name back and her story told." - Derrick Levasseur & Stephanie Harlowe, Owners of Criminal Coffee

“We are very honored to be working with Intermountain Forensics on Preble County Jane Doe and are incredibly grateful to them for being our saving grace on Penny’s case.” - Olivia McCarter, Moxxy Forensic Investigations Investigative Genetic Genealogist / Lab Coordinator

Intermountain Forensics is proud to be a part of this fantastic group of passionate people all aligned to help make the world a better place. We truly believe this is the first of many examples of partnerships aligned to obtain the resources, technology and talent required to help solve cold cases like this one. Let's do this.

Let's change the world!
